Microcredit scheme for peasant women farmers: CAMGEW has been working with peasant Women to develop a small micro-credit scheme that enables them have access to credit at low interest rates. CAMGEW has built the capacity of a women group on this scheme and is providing them with some money to start this credit scheme. This will help women buy their farm inputs at the right time, send children to school, preserve their farm output and sell them when the market is good and have access to credit. CAMGEW has been working with them to help them manage money. CAMGEW need volunteers, interns, experts and funds to build this micro credit scheme to better serve peasant women.

The CAMGEW micro-credit is a program for the active peasant women with less than a dollar earning a day in the Oku and Noni communities. CAMGEW is promoting this program to change lives of women and children in the community. The main objective of this program is poverty alleviation to enable hundreds poor women start micro enterprises. CAMGEW provide credit of less than US$ 200 and entrepreneurial training to them. The loan is given at a very low interest rate and is repaid in maximum of 6months installments. CAMGEW hope to see women develop wealth and become economically empowered. CAMGEW started this scheme in April 2014 and expects to have at least 170 women benefit yearly with 12 to 17 benefiting monthly. The loan is given only to active poor women or individual members of a solidarity group who like to start up or extend their existing business.

These women to benefit must have a good business focus, ready to learn, good in character, wise and ready to keep records of their businesses. We have also opened a saving account for the women to encourage them to save as a means of investment and also to promote their businesses. Daily and weekly savings is going on in line with the program. Women we work with now see reasons to belong to a group as we organized each batch that benefit each month into a group and they give a name to their group, do savings, work as one people, have solidarity fund and benefit from bulk buying. CAMGEW assist them buy in bulk like wheat flour, rice, salt and others in bags and members distribute it within themselves. Many of the women that have benefited from our scheme run small restaurants, petty businesses, poultry, fire selling, vegetable selling, fruits, medicinal oilment, communication credit transfer, etc.
